Geothermal energy is the answer to the world’s energy issues and it is right beneath your feet. By harnessing the thermal energy buried underground, you can heat or cool your home, business or building for a fraction of the cost of conventional heating. It is a green energy that delivers results and will save you money as well.
Just a few metres beneath the earth’s surface lies a consistent source of warm soil and water that can provide a free, renewable source of energy. The process of extracting that heat is remarkably simple yet effective.
A circuit of underground piping is buried beneath or beside your home. Fluid is then pumped through this piping. The earth’s temperature warms the fluid, which then returns to your home. The warmth is extracted from the fluid and concentrated using a heat pump before returning to the earth to be warmed once again. The system operates on much the same premise as your common refrigerator, extracting heat from the ground and placing it in your home.

In the summer, the soil is comparatively cool to outdoor temperatures. The geothermal system can then use these cool temperatures to air condition your home.
With geothermal power you become your own utility. Say goodbye to expensive hydro bills and market fluctuations. The power source never changes and so your power needs are forever met. Geothermal energy is tomorrow’s green energy today.
The Geothermal Unit uses a heat pump to harness an average ground temperature of between 8 and 12 degrees Celsius. It then compresses this heat before expelling it into the building at a concentrated level. This means that while the pump is only extracting 8-12 degrees Celsius from the ground, it can produce temperatures as high as 35 degrees Celsius inside the home.
When summer arrives, the Geothermal process reverses. Instead of extracting heat from the ground, the unit extracts heat from the home, expelling it through the network of pipes |
buried underground. Much like a refrigerator, it removes the hot air from your home, leaving a cool, comfortable environment in which to live. Because the earth’s temperature is considerably cooler than the outdoor air in the summer, the Geothermal system operates more efficiently than a typical air conditioning unit.
By relying on ground temperature, Geothermal units do no have to warm cold outdoor air in winter or hot outdoor air in summer, as conventional heating and cooling units do. This dramatically increases the unit’s efficiency. The savings are substantial. The Geothermal unit can heat a building at 50% of the cost of conventional heating and it can save you up to 30% on your air conditioning costs.
